Building slump result of poor planning

Sydney's 10-year building slump is the result of a poor planning process, according to a new report.
The study, commissioned by the NSW Treasury, is critical of the state government – calling its planning process “full of vague and ill-defined statements”.
The number of dwellings completed in Sydney fell from 32,358 in 1999-2000 to 14,795 in 2007-08.
According to the report, for Sydney to keep apace with demand for new housing it need to build 25,000-50,000 new homes each year. The NSW target is 25,000.
