Alice Del Vecchio has been appointed as head of mortgages for HSBC's Australian personal financial services business.

Del Vecchio replaces John Lane, who has been appointed head of strategy and planning for Personal Financial Services. Del Vecchio has more than 20 years' experience in financial services. She was previously head of mortgages and operations at Aussie Group: she joined Aussie in 2003 and became national head of alliances and distribution in 2004.

The appointment follows chief executive Paulo Maia's recent announcement that the group would look to increase its share of the local mortgage market by growing its business in the "mass affluent" market.
