ING Direct lifts rates

ING Direct has followed the lead of Australia’s major banks and lifted its residential variable home loan rates by 25 bps effective from today.

The increase reflects the RBA’s decision earlier this week to raise the official cash rate by .25% making it 4.5%.

The change will bring ING Direct’s most popular product, Mortgage Simplifier, to 6.74% p.a.

The lender promised existing residential variable rate customers will receive a letter advising them of the rate change in late May 2010.

The lastest results from the MFAA/Bankwest Home Finance Index found eight out of 10 borrowers are coping with rising rates, compared with 67.4% in April 2008 just after the central bank stopped raising rates in March 2008.
