Stamp duty should be abolished and negative gearing should be re-imagined to help Australians better afford property, said a property lobby group

When the GST was first being considered , it was intended for the states to abolish stamp duty. In the final negotiations to get the states to agree it never was ! It needs to be reviewed and abolished , particularly for owner occupied homes. I doubt if it will happen in this life time.

Maybe abolish it for first home buyers? Love to know how a 25 year old buying property in this market can save the 5% deposit, LMi costs and the stamps.
