Not Surprising really. About 10% of the people I speak to believe superannuation will pay them in retirement. Most believe it will amount to a car and a holiday! More people believe in property being somewhat of a salvation due to the time frames involved between current day and retirement - from personal experience its hard to argue. Also the highs and lows of property are not as high or as low as the share market. A good example is my father who lives and dies by the share market prices and is likely the reason he has no hair!
