The government needs to allow stamp duty tax breaks for older Australians, to stop a serious trickle-down effect in the market, according to a major real estate franchise

Even better, why not get rid of the stamp duty entirely and improve the economy immensely.

Older Australians cant afford the stamp duty when they down size?BOO HOO!
What about the massive increases in the values since they purchased in the first place (esp in Sydney!) assuming these are the same poor hard done by Aussies who purchased the family home decades ago...oh yeah... and they don't want (or can't afford) to pay land tax or capital gain tax either. PUH-LEASE!!

Maybe agents charge no fees to over 70's downsizing as (logically) it's eating into their nest eggs. Oh, wait..

Fairly irrelevant comment about agents.... Its a government fee and I think a seniors reduction is a superb idea. We provide reductions on many other services so why not. The stamp duty is really hurting downsizers.
