Be careful, motivational speakers can burn you

by Caroline Dann27 Jul 2012

Brokers are often smothered by one motivational speaker after another at industry conferences. But at your next conference, be careful - even the best in the business can leave you burnt.

21 people were recently treated for second and third-degree burns after being encouraged to walk across hot coals to encourage motivation.

It was part of speaker Tony Robbins's 'Unleash the Power Within' seminar, in which 12 lanes of hot coals were laid out on the grass at a nearby park.

The San Jose Mercury reported witnesses heard 'screams of agony'.

Meanwhile, the Best Headline of the Week award goes to the Sydney Morning Herald for calling the story Burning Ambition.

Also happened at a Tony Robbins seminar about 6 years ago when a group of hungry jack employees were admitted to hospital with about flame grilled

When the motivation speaker says, "only 5% of you will take up this offer", I'm usually one of the 95% who usually doesn't take it up. I've come to the conclusion that I'll do the speaker a favour and help him improve his conversion ratios by skipping sessions offered by motivational speakers. I've got better ways to enjoy my time.

    Storm that was hot.
Plus they paid big $$ for the experience so they got flame grilled on BOTH sides.
Will be a hard lesson to forget.
