The FBAA has kicked off its inaugural conference in Sydney with a Liberal senator arguing for deregulation of the industry.

FBAA president Peter White the association's conference is underway at the Sydney Covention and Exhibition Centre, and that Senator for NSW Arthur Sinadinos addressed brokers on the regulatory issues surrounding the industry.

"Having a banking background, [Sinodinos" spoke as the opening official talking about issues revolving around the need of deregulation and how that impacts our industry, and what the Coalition is wanting to do to support us in our businesses," White said.

White said the conference would continue today and tomorrow, with presentations from Treasury officials, ASIC, the Financial Ombudsman Service and YBR executive chair Mark Bouris.

"Although the weather hasn't been the kindest, we are extremely pleased with the turnout, and especially great support from our exhibitors. This area is freely open to anyone to come in and see so many people in one place that can help [brokers] grow their businesses in one way or another. Anyone in Sydney is welcome to come and look around over the next couple of days," White said.
