Musical chairs at new ministry as Cormann, Sinodinos, appointed to new roles

Prime Minister-elect Tony Abbott has announced the Federal Government’s new ministry, moving financial services to be included as part of the Treasurer’s portfolio.

Senator Mathias Cormann, who has been the shadow Treasurer and shadow Minister for financial services and superannuation for the past three years, will take over the finance portfolio. Senator Arthur Sinodinos has been appointed Assistant Treasurer.

The Financial Services industry is generally expected to welcome the new portfolio appointments given Cormann’s continued involvement in finance and Sinodinos’ involvement in the sector

Why should we welcome this, given Joe Hockey's attitude towards the money lending sectors. It may well be a great disappointment that the role has not been kept by Mathias Cormann, who demonstrated great intellect, fairness and a depth of understanding, which we have still to see demonstrated by Mr Hockey.
