Regional bank tries to conjure Apple magic

Technophiles may need to take out a loan to afford the new iPad, but a regional bank has offered a space where they'll feel right at home.

Bankwest has taken a page from the Apple playbook with the opening of its flagship store in Perth, looking to woo customers with free coffee, wi-fi, web browsing and after-hours seminars. The store will also feature an Apple-inspired "Expert Bar" to give access to banking specialists, certain to be less smug than their hipper Apple counterparts.

"The store's Expert Bar features various experts on hand, giving customers easy access to advice on topics like business lending, online banking and loan applications, as well as providing an additional service for complex banking needs," Bankwest retail CEO Vittoria Shortt said.

Shortt touted the branch's use of touchscreens and numerouse digital screens, its extended opening hours and a community space highlighting the bank's sponsorship of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the West Coast Eagles and the Western Force.

"The space can be utilised for events or player appearances and will also offer merchandise for sale such as West Coast Eagles guernseys," she added.
