Saying that he had emerged as the outstanding candidate, Suncorp chairman John Story announced Patrick Snowball's appointment today as the group's chief executive officer.
He will take up office on 1 September 2009 and will also join the Suncorp Board.
After an exhaustive national and international search, Story described Snowball as being "uniquely qualified" to lead Suncorp toward renewed growth.
"I am delighted to announce the appointment of an outstanding leader with extensive financial services experience," Story said.
Snowball said he looked forward to the challenges of his new role.
"I am excited about the prospect of leading one of Australia and New Zealand's largest financial services companies through a critical stage of its corporate development and in one of the toughest global operating environments seen in many years."
Snowball's financial services experience includes an extensive career at Aviva plc - the world's 5th largest insurance group - as well as a two year term with the Towergate group of companies, in both a deputy chairman and chairman's role.
He also served as a non-executive director of Jardine Lloyd Thompson plc.
Story also acknowledged the leadership of acting CEO Chris Skilton.
