Aussie's John Symond has been named Father of the Year by The Australian Father’s Day Council and charity The Shepherd Centre.
Symond is the father of two children, Stephen and Deborah. His involvement with several charities was cited as a key factor in his appointment.
“John is a fine example of an Australian Father of the Year. He has a strong commitment to both his children, which continues to this day, and has been able to combine his fatherhood responsibilities with his professional achievements," said Australian Father’s Day Council chairman, Maurice Newman.
Symond credited his parents with demonstrating "the importance of prioritising their children. I’m fortunate that this was instilled in me,” he said.
“I am honoured to be recognised in this way. It’s a complete surprise. Really unexpected.”
Previous winners include Steve Vizard, Steve Waugh and David Koch.
