Donna Sawyer: The Australian mortgage awards is the biggest night on the calendar for the best in the mortgage industry and this year was a celebration to remember. Sydney’s iconic town hall set the scene for the glamour event rewarding excellence in broking and business development management. A Who’s Who of the mortgage industry turned out for the night with proceedings hosted by renowned television personality Ian “Dicko” Dickson. This year’s Australian Broker of the Year once again went to Mark Davis from the Australian Lending and Investment Centre. Westpac proudly presented the award to Mark who is clearly driven to success.
Mark Davis, Australian Lending & Investment Centre
Mark Davis: Having a focus and living and breathing what we do. I have been doing it for probably 10 -15 years, so it’s not really 3 years in the broker industry, it’s probably 15 years in the lending industry and just improving and trying to improve every day for that 15 years. I am pretty a little bit too driven and I live and breathe it and a part of me struggles a little bit, but when you love something it’s fantastic and you become good at it.
Donna Sawyer: Then next generation of up and coming brokers were recognised Australian Young Gun of the Year title given to Josh Bartlett of Loan Market.
Josh Bartlett, Loan Market
Josh Bartlett: There is always the Gen Y, Gen X issue. You know why do I have to work so hard, so that’s probably half their issue, they need to figure out you know working hard reaps rewards and this industry you can reap the rewards.
Donna Sawyer: The BDM of the Year, Stefania Riotto of Advantedge who says it’s a tough job that requires total dedication, but the rewards are there for those who work hard.
Stefania Riotto, Advantedge
Stefania Riotto: Absolutely critical, it is just a lynchpin between the lenders and what they are trying to do to build the business. So BDMs are definitely worth their weight in gold and not because I am one, but they are really key to making that process as smooth as possible.
Donna Sawyer: It was a successful night for Tiffen & Co., culminating in the company taking out the Australian Brokerage of the Year. Gerard Tiffen says the award shows that perseverance and commitment to customer service pays off.
Gerard Tiffen, Tiffen & Co.
Gerard Tiffen: Well, it’s a tough gig. By doing it yourself, starting off, making and creating your own wheel basically is not easy. So yeah, look perseverance, give it a go.
Donna Sawyer: The night was topped off with cheers, smiles and dancing as the industry kicked up their heels and partied the night away. The perfect celebration for a prestigious event that continues to grow. This is Donna Sawyer reporting for Australian Broker TV.
