APRA announces exec shakeup

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has announced a number of executive changes within its leadership team.

Sean Carmody, executive director of cross-industry insights and data (CID), will take over Brandon Khoo’s role as executive director of insurance, while Khoo will become executive director of CID.

In their new roles, Carmody will take charge of the day-to-day supervision of regulated entities within the general, life, and private health insurance industries, while Khoo will oversee APRA’s specialist supervisory teams and drive the prudential regulator’s ongoing investment in its data and analytical capabilities.

Carmody and Khoo will formally commence in their new roles on April 4, reporting to Helen Rowell, APRA deputy chair.

In addition, Warren Scott, APRA general counsel, will be retiring after 13 years at APRA. Stepping into his role effective April 15 is Lucinda McCann, general manager of legal and deputy general counsel.

Finally, APRA has appointed Sharon Burns as its new chief financial officer. She will take up duties in late April.

“I am pleased to be able to announce each of these new appointments, which are reflective of the strong leadership team APRA is fortunate to have,” said Wayne Byres, APRA chair. “I would also like to acknowledge and thank Warren Scott for his very significant contribution to APRA over more than a decade.”
