New research from YouGov shows Commonwealth Bank (CBA) remains the top choice for prospective financial services customers, with 31.7% of Australians considering it as their next banking provider.

National Australia Bank (22.9%) and ANZ (21.8%) round out the top three.

Traditional banks retain trust as digital players gain ground

CBA, amid a surge in digital home loan applications, leads consideration among both men and women, and across all age groups, confirming its dominance among Australia’s major banks.

The results form part of YouGov’s Australia Consumer Bank Rankings 2025, which analyse both customer satisfaction and financial services consideration across the country’s largest financial institutions.

While Australia’s established institutions continue to lead overall, digital-first challengers are making strong headway.

Revolut recorded the biggest year-on-year gain in consideration (+3.9 points), followed by Bank of Melbourne (+3.4)and Bank of Queensland (+2.5).

YouGov said the findings point to a market in transition, with digital adoption accelerating among younger, tech-savvy customers.

Younger, digitally engaged customers drive activity

According to the report, 62% of Australians are likely to use a financial product or service in the next six months. This growth is being led by a younger and more digitally active audience:

  • 44% are aged between 25 and 44.
  • 61% hold multiple bank accounts.
  • 34% use a smartphone or tablet for online or mobile banking daily, and another 35% do so several times a week.

These behaviours reflect a growing appetite for flexible, multi-channel banking, which is reshaping customer expectations and loyalty.

Satisfaction leaders: People First Bank ahead of the pack

When it comes to customer satisfaction, People First Bank leads with a net satisfaction score of 70.4 among current and former customers, followed by Revolut (69.1) and Great Southern Bank (67.9).

Bank of Queensland posted the strongest improvement, particularly among younger Australians, recording a 16.4-point year-on-year uplift in satisfaction.

How the rankings were compiled

The Australia Consumer Bank Rankings 2025 draw on YouGov BrandIndex data collected between September 1, 2024, and August 31, 2025.

Satisfaction results are based on responses to: “Of which of the following financial services brands would you say that you are a satisfied or dissatisfied customer?”

Consideration rankings reflect those who said they were “likely” or “very likely” to purchase a financial product in the next six months.

Consumer insights were sourced from YouGov Profiles+ Australia (2025-10-19), covering a 52-week rolling dataset of financial product intenders.
