SME fintech lender OnDeck has been named as one of the best companies to work for in Australia by a leading research and consulting firm.

The company was listed in the top 40 best places to work by WRK+, improving their previous position from 2019.

“We are incredibly proud that an independent panel of experts have formally recognised us as one of Australia’s best workplaces,” said Cherie Habashi, Head of people and culture at OnDeck.

“It’s also thrilling that we have moved up the list since 2019 and during these unprecedented times.”

“We were thrilled two years ago to be ranked as a “Great Place to Work”, but this latest designation recognises the genuine commitment that members of our close-knit team have to each other and to our clients and the broker channel that supports us.”

“OnDeck’s high level of employee engagement has contributed to outstanding levels of customer service, as evidenced by OnDeck’s 4.8/5 Trustpilot rating.”

How OnDeck became one of the top workplaces in Australia

OnDeck has brought in a range of measures to help staff in locked down cities to cope with their situation and to remain their best at work despite the pandemic.

“During the latest COVID lockdowns, OnDeck is maintaining team spirit and employee engagement through various virtual team building activities every week that included fun exercise sessions, online cookbooks, trivia nights and meditation classes,” said Hibashi.

“Recently, we held a “paint and sip” event where we sent out canvases to our team members who enjoyed a great night exploring their inner Dali, Picasso, and Van Gogh.”

“We also sent each member of the team deluxe hampers to replace company events that had to be cancelled due to lockdown.”

“We’re also checking in regularly on the health and wellbeing of our team members to ensure we keep our finger on the pulse. We’re also about to launch a ‘Healthy Minds’ series focused on mental health to support our team members through the lockdown.”

Using tech to become a better place to work

For OnDeck, the tech that powers them as a fintech can also help improve employee satisfaction.

“We have an engagement framework that underpins how we drive employee satisfaction in our organisation,” said Cherie Hibashi.

“This framework encompasses key engagement drivers across regular and transparent communication, living our values, a strong emphasis on comradery and leadership that genuinely cares about our people.”

“A key contributor to OnDeck’s certification as one of Australia’s Best Places to Work is our company’s innovative use of technology.”

This was highlighted by OnDeck’s 2021 launch of the KOALA Score, an inhouse developed, bespoke credit assessment algorithm, which has underpinned product innovations such as Lightning Loans that can deliver funds to small businesses in as fast as two hours.”

“For Millennial professionals in particular, the smart use of technology is often the deciding factor that makes a company attractive to work for.”
