Property sector unites to raise $1m for homelessness

The property sector has united behind a national cause, raising more than $1.02 million through the inaugural A Night Without Home campaign to support Australians experiencing homelessness.

The campaign, launched by the A Home for All Foundation, asked participants to spend one night without the basic comforts of home—reflecting the reality faced by more than 122,000 Australians on any given night, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS 2023). This includes people sleeping rough, living in overcrowded housing, or relying on temporary or supported accommodation.

Foundation builds on industry commitment

Established in September, the A Home for All Foundation builds upon the property industry’s longstanding advocacy to address homelessness.

During its first year, all funds raised will be distributed to charities supporting people made homeless due to domestic and family violence—a group that has more than doubled between 2021 and 2024.

People experiencing or at risk of homelessness are among Australia’s most socially and economically disadvantaged. While governments fund housing and homelessness programs, most services are delivered by non-government organisations, including those specialising in support for families escaping violence.

The Foundation’s advisory committee will oversee fund allocation based on strict criteria designed to fill funding gaps and direct resources where they are needed most.

Industry leaders rally behind the cause

Natalie Hortz (pictured left), foundation advisory committee member and Ray White’s head of organisational development,  said the industry has a unique opportunity to drive lasting change.

“Ray White kicked off our support for the foundation at our Connect 2025 conference, where we live auctioned to a crowd of 3,000 people an incredible line-up of experiences and prizes that money can’t usually buy," Hortz said.

"Our industry is powerful and we’re in a position to help drive this change and to start important conversations that help make a real difference in local communities.”

Collaboration delivers powerful results

Christine Mikhael (pictured right), advisory committee chair and LJ Hooker CEO, said the result proves what can be achieved when the real estate and mortgage sectors work together.

“The fundraising success of A Night Without Home highlights what’s possible when our industry unites and works together. The momentum we’ve seen so far has been incredible and it’s only the beginning," Mikhael said. "The foundation’s advisory committee is determined to drive meaningful change and will direct our fundraising efforts to charities with a track record of delivering high impact solutions to tackle homelessness.

“A heartfelt thank you to our incredible launch partners, our matched donation partners, and to every single person who has participated and donated to help us reach our initial fundraising goal.”

100% of funds to be distributed in 2026

All funds raised through the campaign will be distributed in early 2026 to selected charities that deliver measurable impact in supporting families affected by homelessness and domestic violence.

Homelessness can stem from multiple social, economic, and health-related factors—including job loss, low income, trauma, domestic violence, and the lack of affordable housing.
