Trilogy Funds Management, an Australian-owned fund manager specialising in property-backed investments, has appointed financial services executive Philip Anthon (pictured) as an independent non-executive director, adding governance, risk and funds management expertise to its board.
Commenting on the appointment, Anthon said it comes at an important time for the Australian funds management sector, with robust governance, effective risk oversight, and investor confidence fundamental to what he considers essential to any funds management business's long-term success.
Anthon brings more than three decades of experience in the heavily regulated financial services sector. His background includes chairing FIIG Holdings, sitting as a non-executive director of Intermediate Capital Managers (Australia), and serving as a responsible manager for Partners Group Private Markets (Australia). He also held senior executive roles at Suncorp Wealth Management across risk, compliance, governance, and leadership.
Trilogy Funds co-managing director Henry Elgood said Anthon's appointment reflects the non-bank lender’s focus on governance as regulatory obligations continue to shift.
"Philip brings significant funds management, governance, and regulatory expertise to the Board," Elgood said, pointing to Anthon's experience across both the strategic and operational sides of regulated financial businesses, including work on Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) governance frameworks, responsible entity operations and enterprise risk management.
Elgood also said the evolving regulatory environment makes disciplined decision-making an ongoing priority for the board.
That aligns with where regulatory focus now sits: ASIC recently told a parliamentary committee governance and disclosure standards remain a live concern for managed investment schemes.
Anthon is an admitted solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from the Queensland University of Technology, is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), and is a certified chair with the Advisory Board Centre.
