Triple triumph: Peter Mastroianni named 'Mentor of the Year' across Australia

Peter Mastroianni is having a really good year.

Mastroianni, founder, broker and mentor of Brisbane-based Loans Only, walked away with the "Mentor of the Year" award at the Finance Brokers Association of Australasia's (FBAA) annual gala and 2025 Supremacy awards

But he also won the "Mentor of the Year" award during the Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia's (MFAA) 2025 National Excellence Awards this past July in Melbourne, as well as receiving the same accolade from aggregator Finsure.

Australian Broker caught up with Mastroianni during the FBAA's Gold Coast gala, which honored 18 of the sector's top performers, to uncover the secrets behind his success and his outlook on the market heading into 2026.

AB: How does it feel to win?

PM: It's very exciting. I've been very lucky this year. I've won the MFAA award for Mentor of the Year. And I aggregate under Finsure, so I won the Mentor of the Year award under Finsure. And now to win the FBAA award for Mentor of the Year… so I've won the three national awards for mentor of the year. I'm pretty charmed.

AB: Why do you think you won?

PM: We have the best program nationally for mentoring new-to-industry brokers to the market. So it's pretty clear. And we look after our brokers. I have 40-odd brokers within the group. And a lot of them have been with me for a very long time.

And I'm just grateful to support individuals from all walks of life, help them come into the industry and help them grow new businesses where they're earning $20,000, $30,000, $50,000 a month. That's life changing for them. It's amazing. So yeah, it feels really good.

AB: What tips or tricks do you have for others who want to emulate your success, or who want to win next year?

PM: Create a systemized program that's repeatable and replicable in that outcomes are measurable and repeatable in every instance where new people are coming in.

AB: How do organizations like the FBAA or the MFAA help you? How have they helped you throughout the year to be better at what you do?

PM: It comes down to the BDMs actually. So support from them and helping onboard new brokers into the industry.

AB: What's your outlook for 2026? Do you think Australia's property and loan markets are going to be more busy? Or less busy than in 2025?

PM: I think mortgage broking is a great business to be in. So I think it's going to be busier than last year.
