New platform integration aims to cut paperwork and duplicate data entry

Australian Finance Group adds Allianz insurance referrals for brokers

Mortgage brokers in the Australian Finance Group (AFG) network can now refer clients to Allianz for home, contents, landlord, and motor insurance without leaving their lending platform.

Allianz is a long-standing AFG insurance partner. Its arrival broadens Partner Connect, AFG’s platform for connecting clients with related services beyond lending. Referrals can now be started directly within BrokerEngine Plus, drawing on customer details already captured during the loan process.

Cutting referral admin for brokers

AFG has positioned the integration as a way to reduce the paperwork that can stop brokers following through on insurance conversations.

“One of the biggest barriers to referrals is the additional administration involved,” said Them Lam (pictured), AFG’s chief distribution and marketing officer.

Lam said that when a referral means extra systems, repeated data entry, or separate paperwork, “it’s easy for an opportunity to fall by the wayside”.

Under the new set-up, users avoid keying in the same details twice. They can also monitor each referral’s progress and commission status from within the platform.

Insurance as part of the client conversation

Lam framed the move around the broader client relationship, noting insurance often comes up when someone buys a home or finances a car.

“Brokers are already having conversations with their clients that extend well beyond the mortgage,” he said.

Their role in home lending is also growing, with brokers facilitating a record 81.6% of new residential home loans in the June 2026 quarter, according to the latest market share data from the Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia (MFAA).

Lam said the partnership lets brokers serve clients at significant life events and draw more from existing relationships. For originators, the referrals also offer a path to diversify their businesses beyond home lending.

The addition also comes as clawbacks rise alongside broker income. The median gross clawback per broker climbed 16.5% to $11,442 in 2025, while median gross revenue grew about 16%, based on matched aggregator data in the MFAA’s State of Mortgage & Finance Broking Report 2026.

Training to support the rollout

AFG will back the partnership with broker education, webinars, and in-platform communications. These are designed to help brokers recognise when an insurance referral is relevant to a client and to get the most from the new integration.
