The Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) has welcomed the appointment of long-time real estate professional Connie McKee to the board of the Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA), describing her addition as a major win for on-the-ground industry representation.

The REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella said McKee brings extensive experience and fresh perspective to the board at a crucial time for Queensland’s rental market.

“Connie brings over four decades of hands-on industry experience as a practising property manager, small business owner, trainer and advisor,” Mercorella said.

“Her deep understanding of property management issues, combined with her passion for education, compliance and best practice, makes her an ideal addition to the board.

“This board refresh introduces strong and diverse voices, and we’re pleased to see the real estate profession represented through Connie’s appointment during a period of significant change in the rental sector.

“The inclusion of a practitioner who understands the on-the-ground realities of Queensland’s rental market will undoubtedly provide valuable insights to the RTA’s work.”

Decades of experience and education in real estate

McKee brings more than 40 years of industry experience, having owned and operated three real estate businesses covering sales and property management. For over 25 years, she has worked as a trainer, assessor, advisor, and real estate speaker.

She is also a founding member of the REIQ’s Property Management Support Service (PMSS) and remains an active contributor, offering expert guidance and education to real estate professionals across Queensland.

McKee has led training sessions on legislative reforms and continues to support the next generation of property managers through her ongoing work with the REIQ’s educational programs.

McKee reflects on new role

McKee expressed her enthusiasm for the appointment in a public LinkedIn post, highlighting her commitment to supporting the rental sector during a period of significant change.

“It’s a privilege to join the RTA at such an important time, as part of a new leadership team committed to supporting Queensland’s residential rental sector,” she said.

“I look forward to contributing to the RTA’s strategic direction and to working alongside fellow board members and stakeholders to promote fair and sustainable housing outcomes across the state.

“Thank you to those who have supported my professional journey – I’m excited for what lies ahead.”

Board refresh brings new leadership to the RTA

The REIQ, which recently launched the Seller Disclosure Tool to help agents meet Queensland’s new statutory disclosure requirements, also acknowledged and welcomed the broader leadership changes at the RTA, including the appointment of Steve Davidson as CEO, Brook Monahan as chairperson, and two new board directors, Paul Spiro and Colin Cassidy.

“We congratulate Steve Davidson on his appointment and look forward to working with him in his new role, as he leads the RTA into its next chapter,” Mercorella said.

“The REIQ has enjoyed a long-standing, collaborative relationship with the RTA, and we are confident that will continue under this new leadership team.

“As the state’s peak body for real estate professionals, we’re committed to working constructively with stakeholders, including the RTA, to support fair, balanced and effective rental outcomes for both property owners, managers, and tenants.”
