The head of a leading debtor finance lender has been appointed as the chair of the industry's peak body.

The Debtor and Invoice Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (DIFA) has announced it has appointed Scottish Pacific CEO Peter Langham as chairman. Langham brings more than 30 years of experience in the debtor finance industry.

DIFA said its members in Australia handle more than $63bn of sales a year for 4,500 businesses, and that the association would benefit from Langham's extensive industry experience.

“Our industry plays an important role in helping SMEs achieve their aspirations, by providing flexible working capital solutions to assist their growth. Based on overseas experiences, there are substantial growth opportunities in Australia for the debtor finance industry,” Langham said.

Langham said the association's membership included some of the world's largest companies, including GE, HSBC and the major Australian banks
