The Finance Broker Association of Australia's (FBAA) long-time Managing Director Peter White is leaving his post as head of the industry body.

The long-serving leader of the FBAA has more than four decades in the finance industry, including roughly 23 years at the helm of the FBAA.

"Change is not only good, but necessary for any organisation, and brings new ideas and fresh vision," White said.

"It's been an amazing journey," he added. "I’ve met countless lifelong friends, and I’ve had the privilege of being a part of the tremendous growth and impact of the FBAA. Today our association is a leading voice for our sector, respected by those at the highest levels of government and industry."

FBAA Board Chair Brett Spencer described White's decision to leave as "a difficult one for all," but added that "the time is right for him and the FBAA."

"Peter has been a general for this association for over 20 years, and like all retiring leaders, he will be missed by many," Spencer said.

The board has not yet appointed a successor.

Representatives from the FBAA declined to comment further.

The FBAA has more than 14,000 broker members nationwide.

Broking industry professionals weigh in

Peter Mastroianni, founder, broker and mentor of Brisbane-based Loans Only — and last year's FBAA "Mentor of the Year" award winner at the 2025 Supremacy awards — described White as a "true statesman of the Australian mortgage broking industry."

"He's been across every major shift the industry has navigated, from the various regulatory changes, the Royal Commission, the fight to protect broker independence and remuneration," Mastroianni told Australian Broker. "I have viewed him as a genuine advocate every single time.

"His dedication to brokers, particularly the smaller independents who don't always have a loud voice, has been a real constant in an industry that's changed enormously," Mastroianni added. "That kind of sustained commitment is rare."

Victoria Coster — founder, chief executive officer and credit repair specialist at Sydney-based Credit Fix Solutions — called White's contribution to Australia's broking industry "significant."

"His leadership has helped elevate the voice of brokers nationally, strengthened advocacy efforts and ensured the association remained highly engaged during periods of major regulatory change and industry reform," she said. "Over the years, Peter has worked to position the FBAA as a proactive and respected industry body, particularly in representing the interests of brokers at government and regulatory levels. His longevity in the role has provided continuity and stability through some challenging periods for financial services.

"On a personal note, Peter has always been generous with his time and support," Coster added. "When I was just starting out in business — as a single mum building Credit Fix from very humble beginnings — he treated me with the same respect and encouragement as anyone else in the industry. That willingness to engage with and uplift emerging business owners is something I will always value."

Julian Fayad, founder of Sydney-based asset finance and fintech firm LoanOptions.ai, said, "Peter should be inducted into our industries hall of fame for all of his contributions. Someone who has done so much to fight for our industry and stand up for the role that brokers play in helping customers. Peter will be sorely missed. But he has done such a great job in cultivating a great team and operation, which will allow FBAA to continue to flourish during his retirement."
