Firstmac has released a fresh round of upgrades to Broker Tools, its all-in-one platform for managing loan applications, alongside an expansion of automated broker communications, as part of a wider investment in technology and AI across the business.

Automated updates to boost communication

Firstmac has expanded its automated communications capability, giving brokers more frequent and timely updates on where applications stand throughout the loan lifecycle.

Chief executive officer Marie Mortimer (pictured) framed the move as a direct response to broker service expectations.

"Brokers want certainty, responsiveness and clear communication," Mortimer said.

She said the aim was for technology to support brokers rather than replace the human contact they rely on.

"Our investment in technology is helping us deliver all three, while making sure brokers still have access to experienced people when they need support," Mortimer said.

Broker Tools gets a refresh

The communications expansion sits alongside a broader update to Broker Tools, Firstmac's platform for managing loan applications. The refresh brings improved valuation functionality, stronger document management, and a redesigned interface across desktop and mobile, aimed at giving brokers clearer visibility over applications from submission through to settlement.

Firstmac positioned the update as one visible piece of a much larger investment programme spanning technology, automation, and artificial intelligence across the business.

"Broker Tools is what brokers see, but it's part of a much broader investment we're making in technology and AI across the business," Mortimer said.

"The goal is simple: faster processing, better visibility of applications, and an easier experience for brokers and their customers," she said.

The updated Broker Tools system has now been rolled out to all accredited Firstmac brokers.

The update lands as AI adoption accelerates sector-wide — separate Experian research found 72% of Australian financial institutions now use agentic AI for underwriting decision support, though just 3% call their data fully AI-ready.

More investment flagged

Mortimer said further platform investment is planned as the lender looks to sharpen its competitive position with brokers, reiterating Firstmac's commitment to ongoing technology spend alongside its people.
