ANZ has appointed experienced banking manager Kate Gibson as its new general manager for small business banking.

Gibson will start the Melbourne-based role on March 24 to help support ANZ clients, reporting to corporate and commercial banking managing director Mark Whelan.

“Kate is the ideal leader to support our customers as they take advantage of improving economic conditions,” Whelan said.

“Her experience in developing strong teams and growing businesses will be a tremendous asset to ANZ and our small business customers.”

Gibson has “diverse experience in financial services” spanning telecommunications, healthcare and government services sectors across Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Brazil, a statement from ANZ said.

She most recently was ANZ’s branch network general manager for greater Melbourne.

ANZ also announced general manager of regional business banking, Tania Motton, has been given extra responsibility for corporate and commercial banking in South Australia. She has been responsible for this role in an acting capacity since November last year.

ANZ recently reported a 13% increase in first-quarter profits to $1.73bn. It decided to leave interest rates unchanged after its latest home loan pricing review.
