Jeff Smith, an experienced global business and technology executive, will join the ANZ board as a non-executive director on Aug. 1, subject to meeting regulatory requirements.

Smith’s “vast experience with technology and executive management will complement the board, and I am confident he will provide valuable service to both the organisation and to ANZ’s shareholders as we continue through a period of significant transformation,” said Paul O’Sullivan, chairman of ANZ Banking Group.

Smith has been a chief information officer at several organisations, including IBM, Suncorp, and Telstra. He is currently chief operating officer at World Fuel Services Corporation, based in Florida. He held the COO role since 2017 and will be stepping down from it at the end of 2022.

Smith is also a non-executive director of Sonrai Security and an advisor to the boards of Zoom Video Communications and Box. He was a member of ANZ’s international technology and digital business advisory panel until 2019.

Following his appointment, Smith will stand for election as a director at ANZ’s annual general meeting on Dec. 15. He will split his time between Australia and the US.
