Accredited brokers in the Specialist Finance Group (SFG) network can now place deals with non-bank lender Remara Money, after the aggregator added it to its lender panel on 5 October. The lender offers residential, commercial, and self-managed super fund (SMSF) loans, and targets deals that don’t fit standard bank criteria.

The appointment comes as non-banks win more broker-originated business. Non-banks accounted for 7.2% of new residential lending through the broker channel in 2025, up from 6.5% a year earlier, according to the first State of Mortgage & Finance Broking Report from the Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia (MFAA).

Beyond a standard credit response

For brokers, the appeal is a lender willing to go beyond a standard credit assessment.

Remara Money head of sales Lauren Severino (pictured left) said the lender’s team recognises that “many transactions require more than a standard credit response”.

She said the lender works with brokers to understand each deal and identify a practical way forward. Severino said SFG was well regarded for backing quality brokers with the support and lender access to build their businesses.

Choice over panel size

SFG general manager Blake Buchanan (pictured right) said the aggregator already runs one of the industry’s largest lender panels but stressed that adding lenders was about fit rather than volume.

“At SFG, we have built one of the industry’s largest and most comprehensive lender panels, but our focus has never been on numbers alone,” Buchanan said.

He said SFG reviews the market for lenders that add real value for brokers and their clients. He pointed to Remara Money’s commercial lending experience and its willingness to work through each borrower’s circumstances with brokers.

“Our brokers are dealing with increasingly diverse and sophisticated client needs,” he said.

That choice matters more as the broker channel grows. Brokers facilitated a record 81.6% of new residential home loans in the June quarter, according to the MFAA’s latest quarterly market share data.

Buchanan said the appointment was part of an ongoing investment in the panel as lending conditions and client needs shift.

Education and direct access

Severino said Remara Money wants SFG brokers to treat the lender as “a genuine extension of their own team”.

She said the partnership would include broker education and direct access to experienced lending staff, with brokers encouraged to bring scenarios to the lender early and discuss them openly.
