More than 45% of Mortgage Choice franchisees have stayed with the network for more than a decade. Many of them have built legacy businesses to pass on to their children or others within the network.

Here’s what some people have to say about mortgage broking, becoming part of Mortgage Choice, and what made them stay with the network and thrive.

Tim Leonard

Owner manager, Mortgage Choice in Bayside

“During our journey at Mortgage Choice, we’ve had amazing support. They’ve just been incredible to us, and we also want to give back to the brand because the family side of the business is something that people don’t really understand where they come into Mortgage Choice. It’s amazing.”

“I think it’s a really great industry for women to be getting into and particularly after attending the recent conference and speaking to a lot of the women there. It’s great to see more females coming in and in a very male-dominated industry. it's really great to see and it's something I'm really enjoying.”

Matt Pyers

Loan consultant, Mortgage Choice in Camberwell and Whitehorse

“I think it’s [a] really rewarding, interesting career where you can mix problem-solving and client services. Every month, I just feel like there’s little wins along the way and overall, I think it’s accumulated to [a] pretty rewarding first year.”

Owner partner, Mortgage Choice in Camberwell and Whitehorse

“I just think seeing our team grow from basically myself and Michael and one or two support staff to a team of 10 now – that’s pretty much tripled in size and just seeing where the business is now from where it came from it's probably the most satisfying.

“That’s one of the special parts about Mortgage Choice and it’s always been that way. It’s sort of like a family but it actually is. We’ve got long life-long friendships now within the network that we will really value for many, many years to come.”

Karen Leonard

Owner partner, Mortgage Choice in Bayside

“It took us three years to really get our momentum going but once we started it going and understood what we were doing, it seemed to go to great heights; and we’ve been really thrilled with what we’ve made this business into.”

Peter Ruddock

Owner manager, Mortgage Choice in Whitehorse and Ferntree Gully

“As well as seeing a business that’s growing, it’s the teamwork that’s developed within Mortgage Choice. No one has sat back and said ‘I know I’ve got some secrets that I don’t want to share with you’ or anything like that. No, it's open book, it’s just go for it, so whether it be state office, whether it be other franchisees, everyone’s here to support everyone.”

Simone Ruddock

Loan consultant, Mortgage Choice in Whitehorse and Ferntree Gully

“That’s really great to have the connections we have with young brokers, and we meet up fortnightly – just had a chat about what’s going on, what loans we’ve got, any questions. It’s great to bounce ideas off each other in an industry that’s predominantly quite competitive, that we have that support from other franchisees and loan riders to help each other out.

“It’s so exciting now being accredited to help other people buy, especially first home and being that person to help them.”

Lynne Ruddock

Administration assistance, Mortgage Choice in Ferntree Gully

“We can talk to anybody and pick up the phone and speak to anybody whether that’s another franchisee, a state person, a head office person.”
