Yellow Brick Road has announced the launch of its inaugural Women in Finance initiative to celebrate International Women’s Day today.

According to YBR’s executive chairman Mark Bouris, there has been an increase in women joining the network, particularly since the acquisition of Vow Financial 18 months ago and in line with general Yellow Brick Road branch growth.

However, Bouris admit that women can sometimes face additional challenges in the mortgage broking industry – which he wants to see changed.

“The women in Yellow Brick Road and Vow Financial are strong, business savvy operators who are making a name for themselves in their local communities and the wider industry. However, finance has traditionally been a male dominated career and due to this these women face additional challenges.

“We want to see that change. Women have a natural ability to connect and empathise with their clients and this makes them excellent advisers and mortgage brokers.

“Through the Women in Finance initiative we can now provide additional support to help these women grow their businesses and encourage more to take the leap into this field.”

The inaugural Women in Finance lunch features two keynote speakers – Bouris and MFAA CEO Siobhan Hayden.

The group has been the brain child and passion of Yellow Brick Road New South Wales State Manager Helen Shao.

“The purpose of this group is to come together as women and inspire each other to reach our business goals. Finance is a challenging industry and many of these women have the added challenge of also being small business operators working in a male-dominated space,” Shao said.

“Those combined challenges can leave many women feeling very alone. We believe strongly in the value women bring to the industry and want to provide a support system so that these women can not only survive but thrive in the finance world.”
