8 tips for brokers on social media

If you can use it properly social media is a great tool for reaching new clients, interacting with old ones and building a strong brand for your business.

As we come up to Social Media Day 2018 (June 30), social expert Tom Loneragan has provided some tips for brokers.

The founder of Latch Social believes brokers and financial advisers can benefit from using social media, but says it takes either paid advertising or organic content

He said, “Organic content is just hard work, that’s all it is. If you can do that yourself, great. If you can’t perhaps you might be interested in looking at a manager.

“I always encourage advisers to go and do it themselves, if they can do it themselves and they’re posting every day and they’re finding useful content and they’re getting results, do it yourself. That’s the best way. Realistically though, I would say 99% of the time that’s not going to happen.”

If you are tackling your social media pages yourself, here are some tips to ensure you are making the most of them:

  1. Leverage personal networks: includes nurturing family and friends via social to develop a strong following. Be front and centre for referrals.
  2. Live video: as the Facebook algorithm continues to evolve, live is achieving the most powerful reach of any engagement. Be passionate while delivering these messages, audiences thrive off this.
  3. Be consistent: posting every day if possible or employ the services of a social media manager
  4. Ask your audience pointed questions: this encourages more engagement (comments and likes) to deliver better reach.
  5. Consider competitions: in order to encourage growth in following
  6. Be a leader, not a laggard: use social to communicate new products and services
  7. Take advantage of company events: they provide a powerful opportunity to build excitement and awareness around your presence
  8. Positioning: can help somewhat to add Facebook icons to your email signature and website
