Melbourne is buzzing as the nation’s top brokers and lenders roll into town.

Australia's brokerage and lending communities – which includes brokers, lenders, aggregators, service providers and more – are all headed to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) this week for the Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia's (MFAA) 2025 national conference and excellence awards.

The two-day affair kicks off Tuesday night with a welcome cocktail party, offering industry professionals a chance to connect and network ahead of the main program. Wednesday's conference – dubbed "The YOU Difference" – features a lineup of expert-led panels. Discussions will dive into building client trust, uncovering hidden opportunities, harnessing AI and sharing actionable strategies to accelerate broker growth.

"We're Australia's largest broking community," said MFAA Chief Executive Officer Anja Pannek. "It's all about connection, coming together and sharing experiences and learning from each other. You get to hear from world-leading speakers and your peers. It's just such an amazing environment."

At present, mortgage brokers now facilitate nearly 77% of all new residential home loans – a figure that's only expected to climb, according to the MFAA. And with the mortgage and finance landscape evolving rapidly – especially with the increasing role of technology, regulation and customer expectations – events like this provide brokers with a chance to stay ahead of the curve.

The educational panels and networking opportunities allow attendees to gain fresh insights, hear directly from thought leaders, and learn best practices from peers. For many brokers, attending the conference is not only a chance to sharpen their skills, but also to build relationships that can drive future business.

The festivities culminate in a black-tie gala at Crown Melbourne, where the broker community comes together to celebrate, network and honour the industry’s top performers, with many hoping to walk away with a coveted award.

“These awards highlight the outstanding contributions of our members, who are committed to delivering exceptional service and financial outcomes for Australians," Pannek said. “Our finalists represent the best in the industry, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and innovation.”

The MFAA has been celebrating excellence in mortgage broking for more than two decades through its national awards. In the lead up to this year's national event, the association hosted five state-based excellence award events between May and June 2025, each drawing hundreds of industry professionals and shining a spotlight on local talent.
