Aggregator Finsure Group has partnered with Australian fraud detection specialist Fortiro to build purpose-built document fraud screening into its forthcoming Metanoia platform, as the industry grapples with a sharp rise in AI-generated falsified paperwork.
The partnership comes as artificial intelligence makes it increasingly straightforward for criminals to fabricate convincing payslips, bank statements and other financial documents.
Fortiro's technology draws on document forensics, data analysis and machine learning to flag anomalies and possible manipulation across this kind of paperwork.
Finsure chief executive Simon Bednar (pictured) said the arrangement reflected the aggregator's duty to protect its network.
"We are amid an AI arms race," Bednar said, noting the tools available to fraudsters are becoming both more powerful and more accessible, and increasingly difficult for brokers to detect through visual inspection alone.
He said Finsure wanted a partner already trusted by major financial institutions, describing Fortiro as a market leader positioned to bring that expertise directly to its broker network.
Just earlier this month, the NSW Financial Crimes Squad charged an accounting firm, two accountants, and two intermediaries over an alleged multi-million-dollar mortgage fraud and money laundering syndicate involving fabricated documents, bringing the total charged in that investigation to 33 people.
Fortiro co-founder and chief executive Sean Quagliani said the shift in fraud tactics meant detection tools now needed to evolve just as quickly as the technology being used against them.
"Financial document fraud is becoming easier to execute and increasingly difficult to identify through visual inspection alone," Quagliani said.
He said the new offering, the first purpose-built aggregator solution of its kind in the industry, is designed to complement rather than replace the verification lenders already carry out, giving brokers greater confidence in the documents borrowers submit.
According to Quagliani, that added assurance should let genuine applications move through the pipeline faster, with quicker outcomes for customers.
Bednar said the Fortiro integration aligns with Finsure's wider ambitions for Metanoia, a platform combining automation, artificial intelligence, and other integrated technology to lift broker productivity while strengthening risk management. He said the goal was not to add friction to the application process, but to embed sophisticated, consistent checks that help brokers identify risk earlier and build trust with lenders and clients alike.
Finsure, established in 2011, is one of the largest mortgage aggregation groups operating across Australia and New Zealand. Fortiro, founded in 2021, provides fraud detection and document verification technology used across a range of lending, insurance, and payments businesses globally.
