FinTech Australia has announced the addition of two new categories at its fifth annual Finnies awards, both of which reflect the growth and deepening maturity of the industry.

According to FinTech Australia CEO Rebecca Schot-Guppy, “One of the reasons we adjust the awards on offer every year to ensure they truly represent the remarkable achievements of our sector.”

‘Excellence in Open Data’ and ‘Hall of Fame’ will both be featured groups at the June 9 event, set to take place in the Forum Melbourne. Last year, the industry saw the first ever virtual Finnies run in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, with more than 300 people tuning in during the live event.

The Excellence in Open Data award will go to the company best managing and controlling its data – a topic that has been thrust to the fore with the launch of Open Banking in Australia last year.

The Hall of Fame will commemorate a group that has made a lasting impact on the Australian fintech industry’s overall development.

“The CDR launched in Australia less than a year ago, yet so much work has already been done to install world-leading solutions for consumer and financial data. We want to recognise this,” said Schot-Guppy.

“We also are home to a number of world-leading fintechs that are leading the charge in advertising Australia as a global hub for the sector. The Hall of Fame recognises this, and pits the best against the best.”

Of the 19 award categories featured last year, all but one will return; Excellence in Crowdfunding has been taken off the docket for 2021 due to a lack of entries in the 2020 nomination period.

FinTech Australia is calling for entries, as well as currently taking inquiries for further sponsorships and partnerships for this year’s Finnies.
