The mortgage broking industry was celebrated on Friday night with one of Australia’s top brokers handed the award for Australian Broker of the Year.

The 17th annual Australian Mortgage Awards (AMAs), sponsored by Westpac, was held at The Star in Sydney with a record 650 guests in attendance.

Some 31 awards were presented on the night to the industry’s best brokerages, banks, non-banks, aggregators and individuals from across Australia.

The top award of the night was handed to Josh Bartlett from Loan Market Bayside, picking up Westpac Australian Broker of the Year.

LoanMarket also picked up the award for OnDeck's Aggregator of the Year (over 500 brokers) and Bartlett was back on stage again to pick up two more awards: Broker of the Year - Productivity and Brokerage of the Year (1-5 staff) for Loan Market Bayside.

In a hotly contested category, Alex Veljancevski of Eventus Financial was revealed as the winner of the Australian Young Gun of the Year.

After much anticipation, Option Finance Australia Pty Ltd was named Liberty Australian Brokerage of the year. Donovan Blanch from ANZ was crowned MPA Australian BDM of the Year.

The gala evening was hosted by one of Australia’s foremost stand-up comedians Lawrence Mooney.
