Bank of Sydney has confirmed Kieran McKenna (pictured) as its permanent chief executive officer, capping a year in which the bank completed a significant overhaul of its core banking platform — work the board credits directly to his leadership.
McKenna had served as acting CEO since 3 November.
Bank of Sydney chair Nikolas Hatzistergos said McKenna's handling of that transition made the decision straightforward.
"Kieran is an experienced banking leader who successfully steered one of the most significant milestones in our organisation's history, delivering our core banking transition on time and within agreed parameters," Hatzistergos said.
He added that the board expects McKenna to build on that momentum while "advancing our vision of sustainable, multi-generational banking."
McKenna, who joined the bank as chief risk officer in 2024, said the platform work had largely happened behind the scenes but would now become visible to customers.
"We're on a path of sustainable growth, strengthening our products and services to attract new customers, while deepening our connection to the communities we serve," he said.
McKenna brings over 30 years in Australian financial services, with risk leadership roles at Cuscal, Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, and the ASX, alongside board positions including CUFSS and the Australian Payments Network. He holds an MBA and Advanced Management Program qualification from Macquarie Graduate School of Management, and is a fellow of FINSIA.
Bank of Sydney operates across Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, serving personal and business banking customers for more than 25 years.
