Capspace has appointed finance industry veteran Peter Vala to its advisory board, in a move the company says is central to growing its broker network and extending its presence across the country.
Vala's career spans aggregation, distribution strategy, and intermediary growth — precisely the disciplines that determine how effectively a private lender reaches brokers at scale. Capspace says that experience will be central to its expansion ambitions.
John Encina, co-founder and director, framed the hire as a natural extension of how the company was built.
"Capspace was built with a deep understanding of the broker market. Our strategy has always been centred on building a business by brokers, for brokers: one that understands speed, consistency, communication and the importance of delivering outcomes that help advance Australian businesses and deepen broker-client relationships," Encina said.
The appointment arrives as Australia's private credit sector undergoes significant expansion. According to EY-Parthenon's annual Australian Private Debt Market Overview (March 2026), the market reached $234.5 billion in 2025, having expanded at a compound annual growth rate of 21% between 2015 and 2025. For commercial brokers, that growth is reshaping the lending landscape — and raising the stakes for lenders competing for their attention.
As mainstream credit conditions grow more complex, private lenders are increasingly being called upon not just to fill funding gaps, but to act as long-term partners throughout a client's financial lifecycle. Vala put it plainly: "It's not just about solving an immediate funding issue; it's about helping brokers guide their clients through every stage of their financial journey."
His broader view of where the sector is heading aligns closely with Capspace's own positioning.
"Capspace represents a strong alignment with the evolving direction of the private credit sector and the growing importance of relationship-led lending within the broker market. The company's broker-first model, combined with its focus on disciplined credit assessment and long-term borrower outcomes, closely aligns with my view that the future of private lending will be driven by experienced operators who understand both the broker industry and the ever-evolving funding needs of customers," Vala said.
In practice, Vala will work alongside Capspace's leadership and sales teams to strengthen aggregation relationships and broaden origination pathways, while contributing strategic input across operations and growth initiatives. He will collaborate with financial services marketing specialist Sascha Moore on executing those plans.
Encina noted that Vala's standing in the industry makes him well-suited for the moment. "Peter's deep industry insights, experience, and values closely resonate with this vision as we continue extending our market presence nationally. This is particularly important at a time when private lenders are increasingly becoming strategic funding partners for commercial brokers," he said.
