A non-major bank has worked closely with the Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA) to launch a free health and wellbeing assistance program for mortgage brokers and their families.

Suncorp executive general manager of consumer lending, Bruce Rush, said the initiative makes clear the group’s continued commitment to supporting its broker partners.

“We understand these are challenging times for many Australians, including our broker network, and consider the wellbeing of our employees, brokers, customers and community members the absolute priority,” Rush said.

“Programs such as these provide a listening ear and critical advice to assist with issues such as stress, conflict, relationship problems, and mental health issues including depression or anxiety.”

The program will initially offer all FBAA members and their immediate families access to confidential care via independent provider Assure Programs; within the next year, the bank aims to make the service accessible to all brokers across the industry.

Under the initiative, brokers can access four confidential counselling sessions with a registered psychologist, four wellbeing coaching sessions, and one legal and financial coaching session per year; the services can be conducted via face-to-face meetings, over the telephone or by video calls, all of which come at no cost to the broker.

“The program is designed to help our brokers based on their own unique circumstances, including access to an extensive range of services 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Rush said.

FBAA managing director Peter White AM applauded Suncorp for supporting the broker channel and recognising the importance of mental health.

“The FBAA has been focusing on wellbeing for many years and we see this as an extension of our whole of industry approach. It’s exciting to have Suncorp on board,” he said.
