The Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) has named six new chapter chairs to lead its sector-specific chapter committees for the 2026–27 term, in a move designed to sharpen industry representation and lift professional standards across the state.
Chairs have been selected by their peers from within each committee, which brings together specialists from key areas of the profession. The new leaders are:
The appointments land at a time when Queensland’s rental and sales markets remain in the spotlight, with affordability pressures, low vacancy rates, and strong population growth all driving demand for clear, consistent professional standards.
REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella said the chapter committees ensure the peak body remains closely connected to the realities of practice across Queensland’s diverse real estate sectors.
“While most people first associate real estate with residential sales, a wide variety of professional sectors and specialisations all fall under the real estate umbrella,” Mercorella said.
“Each sector requires specialist skills and operates under varying pieces of legislation.
“As the peak body of such a broad and diverse profession, we recognise the importance of consulting and collaborating with our members from all fields of real estate.
“This feedback loop allows us to better cater to their needs and produce highly relevant resources that complement their specific fields and market segments.”
Mercorella said the chapter committee members volunteer their time and experience to “give back to their sector, shape its future, and be part of the solution”.
The REIQ boss said the chapter committees act as both a sounding board and a practical channel for raising issues from the front line of real estate.
“The chapter committees provide us with insights and ideas from a range of experiences and perspectives, as well as acting as a valuable sector sounding board on the REIQ’s education, training, events, best practice guidelines, and policy positions,” Mercorella said.
“They hold meaningful discussions around how the REIQ can help raise professional standards and legislative compliance, and create a sense of community in their sectors.
“The chapter committees are also a great place for members to constructively channel any legislative or day-to-day frustrations, practice issues, and conduct observations.
“If members would like something raised at the next chapter meeting for their sector, I encourage them to reach out to the relevant chair to see if the committee can assist.”
The 2026–27 chapter committee members were appointed by the REIQ board of directors for a two-year term commencing January, with chairs confirmed at each committee’s first meeting in February.
