The Australian mortgage and finance community turned out in force as 850 guests filled The Fullerton Hotel Sydney on Friday, 17 October, for the 2025 Australian Mortgage Awards (AMAs). The official commemorative guide – featuring the full list of winners, Excellence Awardees, and feature profiles – is now available.
The gala mixed formal awards with dinner, music, and live entertainment, celebrating Australia’s diverse and innovative mortgage broking industry. Comedian Dave Hughes, fresh from his second hospital stint for AFL‑related injuries, kept the room buzzing before handing the mic to Australian music legend Daryl Braithwaite, who brought the crowd to a fever pitch with an extended version of his 90s classic “The Horses.”
This year’s honours spanned the full breadth of Australia’s mortgage ecosystem, but the night clearly belonged to Katie Thomas and the Focus Finance team. Thomas picked up two of the gala’s biggest individual awards – NAB Broker of the Year – Regional and Westpac Australian Broker of the Year – which she credited to “the genuine care for our team and our clients and everybody that we work with”.
A “very shocked and really excited” Maddison Brown added to Focus Finance’s haul as Bendigo Bank Broker Young Gun of the Year, highlighting the firm’s “great culture” and “really supportive” environment.
Among the non‑banks, Bluestone Home Loans was named Rate Money Non‑Bank of the Year. Chief commercial officer Tony MacRae called the win “a fabulous thrill and a great recognition of the whole team,” adding that “the AMAs have always been regarded as the Logies of the mortgage industry, so to pick up one of these is a great thrill.”
Other major winners featured in the commemorative guide include:
For Liberty chief distribution officer David Smith, the night was about more than trophies.
“The AMAs are a great opportunity to come together, recognise the achievements of our peers, and reflect on how far we’ve come,” Smith said. “It’s also a chance to connect with brokers, lenders and partners who are all playing a part in shaping the future of mortgage lending.”
NAB executive broker distribution Adam Brown highlighted the importance of recognising the people behind the deals.
“It’s great to come together, celebrate success [and] celebrate excellence,” Brown said. “It’s great to recognise and give a little back and really value the people that do so much to support Australians getting their homes.”
Competition across all categories was intense, with a distinguished field of Excellence Awardees recognised for their performance, innovation and client focus. Among them:
Collectively, these Excellence Awardees showcase the depth of talent emerging across broking, lending and aggregation – and signal where the industry’s leadership is headed.
The 2025 AMAs followed a rigorous national selection process. A nationwide call for nominations ran from June to July 2025 via Mortgage Professional Australia (MPA) and Australian Broker.
The awards team reviewed submissions and, drawing on their industry knowledge and networks, shortlisted standout brokers, brokerages, lenders, aggregators, and BDMs as Excellence Awardees in each category.
Excellence Awardee submissions then went to an independent panel of respected industry leaders, who assessed them impartially, with any judge stepping aside where a conflict of interest existed.
“Participating in the judging panel for the AMAs is a tremendous privilege − to be entrusted with the responsibility of evaluating the very top performers in our industry,” said judge Cory Bannister, senior vice president and chief lending officer at La Trobe Financial.
Category winners were announced at the gala ceremony at The Fullerton Hotel Sydney on Friday, 17 October 2025, with the full list also published on the MPA and Australian Broker websites.
Westpac returned as principal partner of the Australian Mortgage Awards for the 17th consecutive year, reaffirming its long‑term commitment to brokers and their customers and to recognising excellence across the industry.
Head of broker distribution Warren Shaw thanked brokers and aggregators for their ongoing support, noting the trust Australians place in mortgage brokers for personalised guidance and advice.
