ANZ has appointed Clare Morgan as group executive Australia commercial, effective from early 2023.

As a member of ANZ’s executive committee, Morgan will be responsible for ANZ’s commercial business in Australia, leading a team serving customers ranging from sole proprietors through to emerging corporates, as well as private banking.

Morgan (pictured above) will report to ANZ CEO Shayne Elliott and will be based in Sydney.

The major bank says Morgan has extensive financial services experience across a variety of business and institutional banking sales and product roles in Australia and the US. Most recently, she worked at Commonwealth Bank where she was executive general manager of small business banking.

“Clare is an outstanding leader and I’m confident her business banking experience will be an asset to both ANZ and our customers,” Elliott said. “This is a significant appointment for ANZ as we continue to transform how we serve our commercial customers through the better use of digital platforms and data.”

Elliott said Morgan’s appointment followed ANZ separating out Australia Commercial as a stand-alone division in March earlier this year.

“While banking small businesses has always been core to what we do, it’s the right time to increase focus on this market, given it is a significant opportunity for ANZ and the progress we have made in other parts of our business,” he said.

“Clare joins an experienced team running our major businesses with Antonia Watson leading New Zealand through a period of major change, Maile Carnegie returning Australia Retail to growth and Mark Whelan having transformed Institutional into one of the best run wholesale banking businesses globally.”
